UAE Hackathon, at a glance
Viewed as the largest competitive event for innovation at the national level, the UAE Hackathon reflects the efforts of the Telecommunications and Digital Government Regulatory Authority (TDRA) to disseminate the culture of digital transformation in the country. This project provides an opportunity for different sectors of the community, including university and high school students, entrepreneurs, employed people, and IT experts to use open data as a tool for coming up with solutions based on specific themes and challenges listed for the Hackathon.
Grounds for starting out hackathons
The UAE is pursuing an active role in the era of the 4th Industrial Revolution. It is widely known that data has become one of the most important features of the digital era, and the focus on data in terms of understanding, analysis, and employment has become one of the most important highlights in the transformation towards a digital economy.
In view of this, the wise leadership of the UAE launched the 4th Industrial Revolution Strategy, the National Innovation Strategy, and other national plans that form part of the mechanisms of making the future.
The UAE Hackathon is an integral part of these national trends, and it aims to draw attention to the high value of data and the solutions inherent within it when dealing with daily challenges with regard to the economic, social, environmental, and scientific aspects of life.

Hackathon’s Themes
In response to the directive of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, may God protect him, for the state's government entities to adopt the "Zero Government Bureaucracy" program, the Telecommunications and Digital Government Regulatory Authority (TDRA) has adopted "Zero Government Bureaucracy" as the slogan for the seventh edition of the UAE Hackathon.
And to enable the participants on all tracks, and government entities to collaborate in crafting innovative ideas and practical solutions towards the "Zero Government Bureaucracy" goal, we have identified the following two unifying themes for the UAE Hackathon 2024:
Theme 1: User Driven Digital Government
Theme 2: Digital by Design
These two themes are also aligned with and derived from the dimensions of the UAE Digital Government Strategy 2025. The themes enable federal and local government entities across the UAE to derive maximum benefit from the hackathon by:
Making it easy for these entities to identify challenges within each theme that contribute to their own digital transformation objectives and initiatives.
Allow these entities to identify relevant open datasets that are related to these challenges. This will empower the participants in utilizing these datasets to generate applicable ideas and develop practical solutions.
